Structural Engineers, Architects Needed to Volunteer Post-Ike
by National Trust for Historic Preservation on September 12th, 2008Once again, the Gulf Coast braces for another hurricane.
Early reports from preservationists in Texas indicate that historic structures in Galveston will sustain significant damage from Hurricane Ike. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is in contact with our Partners at the Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) and they have asked us to begin collecting names of structural engineers and architects who are willing to travel to the region as soon as the area is open to non-residents to conduct structural assessments of buildings. If you are an engineer or architect and would be willing to serve on a volunteer team, fill out our short survey.
We are also seeking donations to support our continuing hurricane recovery efforts.
Our thoughts are with our colleagues — and all the residents of the Gulf Coast as they prepare for Ike.

Hi, I’m a recent graduate of Texas A&M’s College of Architecture. I am obviously not licensed yet, but I am an arcitectural intern at HKS architects. My focus in my major was Historic Preservation and I am currently working with Preservation Texas in Austin. I would be more than willing to accompany a team of architects/engineers to the Galveston area for the post-Ike needs. Please let me know if I can be of help Thank you. Carly

Our friends at the Galveston Historical Foundation have scattered, but are trying to set up shop elsewhere in the state, so they can get back to work. GHF is partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to develop a list of structural engineers and architects who may be willing to go to Galveston and help out. Here’s the link. [...]

I am surprised you are not asking for Landscape Architects who practice historic preservation and have cultural Resource experience as volunteers for Galveston. I understand the Rosenburg Library took on ten feet of water and water in the basement.
